Yakobe Launches Initiative to Support Struggling Students
In a heartfelt and inspiring move, Peter Leonard Yakobe, one of Malawi’s youngest authors, philanthropists, and development economists, has announced an initiative to support between 50 to 100 secondary school students facing the harsh reality of being unable to pay their school fees.
Acknowledging the struggles many students face in their pursuit of education, Yakobe shared his belief that no child should be denied an education simply due to financial hardship. In his heartfelt message, he expressed that every student deserves a chance to chase their dreams and build a brighter future.

“This is about giving back,” Yakobe said. “At the heart of every community, there are young minds full of potential, and we want to ensure that they don’t have to let go of their dreams just because of circumstances beyond their control.”
The initiative, which will begin with supporting secondary school students, aims to help those who are at risk of being sent home due to unpaid fees. The application process is open to students who have been sent home or are struggling to stay in school. Applications can be sent to pcyakobefoundation@gmail.com, with the deadline for next term’s support set for 31 January 2025.
“We are committed to making a difference in these young people’s lives, giving them the opportunity to continue their education,” Yakobe added. “Every bit of support can change a life.”
For those who face challenges with technology or email access, an alternative contact is available via Ms. Patricia Bingu at 0982 959 921 between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM weekdays.
Yakobe encouraged the public to help spread the word and bring hope to those who need it most. His initiative is not just about financial support but about giving students the hope and encouragement they need to rise above their challenges and pursue their dreams.
This initiative is a powerful reminder that together, we can make a difference, one student at a time.
